Welcome Pressure Designs to our team

I am really excited to announce that as of last week, Pressure Designs has joined our awesome team! This means that George Reason will be bringing his awesome development skills to the team so that we can bring better products to the RapidWeaver community even faster. George has already had a huge part in the massive Foundation v1.2 update as well as a complete rewrite of MovingBox. Both of these are in beta and should be out soon.

More stacks for your toolbox

As of last night, all of the Pressure Design stacks are now available on our RapidWeaver store . You can head over there now and pick up your copy of you don’t have one.

All existing Pressure Design stack owners will receive a free update to our new versions of the stacks. Be on the lookout for an new invoice with the download you will need to get the updated version.

We have some exciting things planned for these stacks in the future. A few stacks have been renamed and others completely rewritten already. Glider (formerly Slideout) has turned into a knock out stack with this update! You don’t want to miss that one.

What about themes?

I am excited to say that we are also taking on all development of Pressure Design themes as well! For now, all of the themes will remain for sale on the Pressure Designs website until they can be migrated over to our RapidWeaver store. This should happen within the next week or two.

If you are new to Pressure Design themes, check them out today. Anyone who purchases will get free updates to our updated (minor) versions in the future.

Just as with the stacks, if you are a previous Pressure Designs theme customer, look out for an email from us over the next week or two about how to obtain the latest version of your theme from us.

Social Redirects via htaccess

I host a RapidWeaver Community page on Google+. As you may know, Google+ community urls are pretty much gibberish and impossible to remember. Check it out…

https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/111498543804519819953

Pretty horrible, right? In order to give my community a nice URL that could be remembered, I used gplus.to to create an alias that would redirect to the community page: http:gplus.to/rapidweaver. That is so much nicer, right?

All was going great until gplus.to forgot to renew their domain on July 17th. Obviously my nice pretty url no longer worked! Most likely, gplus.to will fix their issues and make sure that it never happens again.

However, what if you wanted to take matters into your own hands? It’s insanely easy to set up your own pretty URL redirects to wherever you want using Apache’s .htaccess file!

Redirect 301 /gplus https://plus.google.com/+JoeWorkman
Redirect 301 /twitter https://twitter.com/joeworkman
Redirect 301 /facebook https://www.facebook.com/joeworkman
Redirect 301 /vimeo https://vimeo.com/joeworkman
Redirect 301 /rwplus https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/111498543804519819953

If you place the above code into your .htaccess file on your web server, you will now have nice pretty URLs to all of your social networks. My RapidWeaver community page can now be access via http://joeworkman.net/rwplus.

You never have to again rely on a service to create pretty urls for you!

Now there is nothing stopping you from using this for redirecting to any URL that you want. Maybe you have a not so easy to remember affiliate URL that you want to create a redirect for. This is a great use case for that as well.
